September 25, 2023: Meta is getting ready to introduce some exciting new generative AI chatbot personas. These personas are designed specifically for fan-celebrity interactions and will be unveiled at the upcoming Meta Connect event.
- Meta’s new initiative: AI chatbots featuring multiple personas for young users.
- Successful testing of these personas on Instagram.
- Main objective: Extend user engagement duration to facilitate increased ad serving by Meta.
Meta is working on something exciting for tech-savvy young people. They’re developing a clever AI chatbot that can engage with young users in a fun and engaging manner, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
This innovation will be showcased at a major event called Meta Connect scheduled for this Wednesday. The chatbot will come with various styles or “personas” to make conversations with young users more enjoyable.
Meta has already experimented with some of these chatbot personas on Instagram. Some of them resemble characters from popular TV shows. For instance, there’s a “sassy robot” inspired by Bender from Futurama. Another persona is “Alvin the Alien,” although some within the company are concerned that Alvin might come across as too intrusive.
However, not everything went smoothly during testing. One chatbot made an inappropriate comment, telling a Meta employee, “When you’re with a girl, it’s all about the experience. And if she’s barfing on you, that’s definitely an experience.” Clearly, that was not well-received.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Meta has ambitious plans to create numerous chatbots. They’re also developing a tool to assist celebrities in creating their own chatbots. Some of these chatbots will even be designed to help people with tasks like coding.
In addition to chatbots, Meta is actively involved in several significant tech endeavors. They are in the process of developing a formidable new computer brain model, aimed at competing with OpenAI’s GPT-4.Simultaneously, they are dedicated to enhancing their virtual world, Horizon Worlds.
Meghana Dhar, formerly associated with Snap and Instagram, shared her perspective on these developments. She mentioned that these chatbots may not immediately align with the preferences of Generation Z. However, she also noted that younger individuals tend to be more comfortable and adaptable when it comes to adopting new technology.
The primary motivation behind Meta’s chatbot initiative is to prolong user engagement with their products, ultimately allowing them to display more advertisements to users.
